DescriptionThe Royal Air Force in North Africa during the Second World War; Royal Air Force, 108 Squadron CBM1264.jpg
English: The Royal Air Force in North Africa during the Second World War
A relaxed portrait of a corporal of the Royal Air Force as he stands under the port engine of Consolidated Liberator Mark II, AL511 'A', of No. 108 Squadron RAF at Fayid, Egypt. This aircraft is decorated with 'Dumbo' nose art. (despite the details provided, aircraft is a Vickers Wellington twin engine bomber - the engine and exhaust installation correspond with those fitted to the Wellington, and not the Liberator, ditto for the fuel jettison pipe under the wing, and the curvature in the rear fuselage also rules out the Liberator. The serial provided corresponds to a Liberator II, however other details may be correct as 108 Squadron operated both Wellington and Liberator.)
