In the Archaeological Survey of India report 'Notes on Ancient Buildings in Kashmir' of 1869, Henry Hardy Cole wrote: 'The principal Temple of this Group is in a better state of preservation than any of those at Nagbal [another temple complex nearby]. The dome and roof are of masonry, and both maintain their original vaulted and pyramidal forms. A large quantity of stones, of huge dimensions, lie heaped in the enclosure; among them some drums of stone columns, which are so weather worn that it is impossible to say whether they were fluted or simple rounded pillars...A tall fir and other trees have grown on the pyramidal roof of the principal Temple, and it was probably by their expansion that the outer stone facing became displaced.'
